My son has a zoom 505 pedal and he wants to use a footswitch for bank changes, unfortunately no one seems to be selling the ZOOM FS01 footswitch in the UK.I've been able to wire up a footswitch for him useing a standard on/off stomp switch, but he has to stomp it twice for it to move up a bank.Is there another way to wire it up so he only has to stomp on it once.

Hi, Dolly. Welcome.

If you're using a standard footswitch, then it's an alternate action switch, meaning it turns on with the first press, then off with the second press. If you were to find a momentary switch I think it would do what you want. Momentary switches remain connected only while they're held down. Most hardware stores will have some kind of pushbutton momentary switch, and most email electronics companies will have them too. They're much more common than alternate action switches.

You can test this by rigging up a wire with bare ends in the place of a footswitch. If momentarily touching the bare wires makes the bank change happen, then the momentary footswitch will work.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Just grab a momentary on/off switch, solder one wire onto each of the two pins.  Easiest thing possible   8)

If the switch is double throw with three lugs (i.e. switches between two different ON connections rather than just ON-OFF) then you could try connecting both end lugs to one lead and the middle lug to the other. The switch will momentarily loose connection when it switches and this could be enough to trigger the Zoom. If the switch is only single throw (just 2 lugs) then you need another switch.

From a previous post:

QuoteAccording to Google: http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-ZOO-FS01--brand-290.html

"FS01, Switching Type: Unlatch and Normally Closed"
This means that to emulate the FS01 correctly you should use a normally closed momentary switch.

Thanks for the help guys, but there appears to be different types of momentary switches, and different ideas of what wiring will work,so a wiring diagram would help. Not a schematic i can't follow them.

It's simple.  Get a SPDT momentary switch.  Grab your meter.  Find which two poles are normally connected by the switch and attach the two wires to those two poles.  No diagram or schematic needed.

If you don't have a meter, wire one wire to the middle pole and the other wire to either outer pole.  If the switch works the way you want, you're done.  If not, move the second wire to the other outer pole.  Now you're done.
What does this button do?

An attempt to show how you would wire an SPDT momentary switch. If this doesn't work, connect the top wire to the bottom lug instead. (Hope you can see that this is supposed to show a switch with 3 lugs and two wires...)
