IIRC, a dub-bal-mixer (=ringmod) IS a phase/outtaphase thingy...

well, you can hear the carrier, which is often tuned to notes somewhat related to your song (if you are using the ringtone to generate musically related sounds.)  that's fun, reallly, because you've got the ring modulated sound which decays (when sequencing or randomly stepping) into notes that might or might not be part of your music.  the bleed isn't loud, of course, it's far below the ring modulated sound, but it's there, loud enough to be detected by a sensitive guitar tuner so you can make notes and get old settings back quickly using the manual step function and the tuner.  Erik did that during the NAMM show... he broke out the strobostomp and set up all of the pitches for the ringtone from his notes taken at home to recover something he wanted to show to people there.
