I loved the consignment area (across the parking lot) where they sometimes have cool vintage stuff. I miss the old Starving musician before it came "bigger".

I bought my Charvel from Starving, Along with 2 great-to-mint condition Sequential Pro One synthesizers!

Starving Musician used to be an awesome place.  I was shopping there when I lived out there and there was still only 1 store.  I bought many pieces of gear from there, and they bought a lot from me as well.  That's where I got my Kramer Baretta from, and I still have it.  Now they have 3 stores now?  When I left CA they had 2, the main one in Santa Clara on El Camino and then one on Main in Santa Cruz.

Guitar Showcase is a cool place too.  GREAT collection of old gear there.

Oh man, don't get me started on memories of the olden days of Starving Musician. I remember going in there in 1991 and 1992 and seeing Moogs for $150, back before I ever wanted one. Silverface Fender Twins for $250 as well.

Try a first run 5150 head for $450, Gibson Les Paul studio for $500, Kramer Barreta for $249.  All in great condition.  That place was like a candy store.  Not sure what it's like now since I've moved away.  I'm sure he's grown the place a lot.

The Bay area was very nice to me. I remember going to someone's house and seeing a Micro Moog and it was mis-triggering. He offered $50 as a price and I said yes. This was before the obession with analog synthesizers. For one of the few times, I got into something before it really started up.

starving musician is still awesome!

I like Gelb consignment in Redwood City.  They had a Clone theory in there not long ago for $150, but I missed that!  And besides, thanks to Nelson, I can build one myself now instead!

If you've got some money, gryphon in Palo Alto is great, Drapers closed just last year, wish I could have made the sale.
Try a little tenderness.

;D

The Clone is noisy because of bad filtering. I am about to release a new improved clone theory layout at toppicione with improved layout, decoupling, filtering and mods for controllable "vibraflange", double track, delay time and stereo. Also a charge pump that doesnt cause heterodyne whining.

So better than $150..

Thanks for your kind words.
