As far as NAMM, yeah, those were the days. If I manned the booth, I missed all the new stuff. If I played at the booth - I had to play a little too soft. If I walked the show, I did have fun, so in the end, I just walked the show :-)

Right on, it gives me headaches working a booth but I had a great time walking around. One day was not quite enough, but I did get to meet almost everyone including Zvex, RG, Alfonso, Smallbear, etc etc etc
Since we don't want to add dealers anyway (too busy!) not having a booth is perfect.

It's just so ironic that when I was living in the Bay Area, I wasn't really into pedals or guitars.... heck.... no components either.

Only when I move away, then I get interested..... GO FIGURE!?

where abouts in the bay area were you?, if that's not too personal a question, I'm just curious because that's where I am!

I lived in San Jose. Played all over the Bay Area from SF to Monterey.

Where is Real Guitars?

Sean Costello

Peter Snowberg

Real Guitars is at 15 Lafayette Street in S.F. which is right around the corner from the intersection of Mission & South Van Ness. Cool little shop. 8)  http://www.realguitars.com/  Gary Brawer String Instrument Repair is in the back.

I'm just up the road in Sausalito.

Erik Miller is over in Alameda. Maybe one day we'll do a DIY "field trip" for Bay Area stompers. :)

Yeah Real Guitars, in SF, is a very cool shop.

I spent the summer of 82' in Alameda. Kinda wish I'd stayed instead of coming back to redneckville. Saw 'The Square' at the Keystone in Berkeley. Peter should know what I'm talking about.

*Sigh*

Yes we should have "Stomp meet" in SF one day. There must be more forum members in the area, maybe we can flush them all out.

I used to work in Redwood City. I liked a lot of things there.

Damn, lots of people from SF here. I was just out there early Dec, my wife and I. The company I work for is located in SF, actually, though I live and work (telecommuting) here in the Midwest outside St Louis. Every Dec they fly my wife and I out there for the company holiday party and put us up in a hotel for the weekend. There's so much to see out there that we haven't hit all the cool places out there. This past year I checked out Subway Guitars in Berkelely. Their website advertized a whole bunch of lefty guitars, so I was really psyched to check it out, but I was actually pretty disappointed, it was one of the smallest places I'd ever been in. Next year I'll have to check out that Real Guitars place. Thanks for the tip ;)

Yeah, subway was a huge disapointment for me.  They had a bunch of canoe paddles on their website, but only one actually strung up and playable in the shop.  A lot of the guitars there just arent players, but they never were!

as for San Jose guitar shops, I was thinking of the one on Bascom, Guitar showcase.

Here's a good article about that place.

Yea, they only had a few lefty strats and one lefty acoustic. I was majorly disappointed. Funny story, I decided before I left to get a couple of sets of strings. The owner guy pointed to the rack of singles and said to pull a set from them. As I was doing this, he then told me he was leaving to go have lunch, and to just throw the money for the strings behind the counter, then LEFT with me, some out of town guy he'd never seen before, alone in the shop. It was a good 15 minutes before someone finally came back to tend to the shop. I was amazed someone could run a little shop while taking such risks of having merch stolen. I could have easily taken the strings and a few guitars, thrown them in the car, and burned out of there before he would have even known about it!

Yep, thats the dawg alright.

He does usually have a few techs in the back, putting guitars back together with parts that have no buisness being in that specific guitar!

QuoteBascom, Guitar showcase.

Here's a funny story. When I moved back I had a ton, I mean TON of change - pennys etc... I put them in a sorting machine and I had them ready to go. I took them to the bank and they didn't want them!

Short story: I called around and asked Guitar Showcase if they would take the change and the guy said "money is money, no problem".

I went in there and tried every distortion pedal and came out with..........

A Boss Meta Zone!  ;D

Those guys there are real salt of the earth guys, they have a great philosophy for doing business.  That's an awesome story,  I can't imagine how many rolls of pennies you would need to get a metal zone, I should imagine the number is substantially less if you want the older HM-2 instead! :)
