Getting the most distortion out of a single FET

is there anyway i can get overdrive of distortion out of a J201? i mean a single one just one that would overdrive or distort a little bit

Here's a single Mosfet one.
You could set up a J201 in a "similar" way
100k trimmer to drain for 4.5 - 5.0 volts
Into gate from 1m to ground and say 47n cap
Source, try 1k8 ( or 5k pot ) with 2.2uf bypass cap from wiper to ground
Out of Drain via 47n cap to some diodes/1n cap to ground then 100k vol pot

That should work :D ( off the top of my head )  !!

Using a single stage of a Jfet Vulcan might work.   :icon_cool:

At the expense of some volume gain, if you bias a jfet to around 1.5V at the drain I got distortion when I was breadboarding the Bassman Fetzer.
