hey guys...

i've read the reports on here and i have tried switching the 2 FETs with J201's and the distorted signal was still coming through the bypassed signal slightly...

So I went further and tried 2n5485's instead

both in q1 and q2 as i believe these are responsible...

does anyone have a definitive fix for this bleed through problem as I understand keeley modded sd-1's have been fixed.

thanks

Hi John. I recommend you read this thread http://www.elixant.com/~stompbox/smfforum/index.php?topic=23903.0
(if you haven't). It talks about the SD-1 bypass problem and ALOT of good advice
and reports of "fix" attempts. I do not have an SD-1, so I have no first hand experience
with this concern, but I believe you would pick up a few good tips. Also, reply #42
by shredgd seems to be the hot thing. He refers to this mod :http://forum.musikding.de/attachements/Boss_SD-1_mod_c.gif
Well I hope this is of help to you. Good luck.

I use to own a sd-1 that i modded and i had the same problem. I tried everything but it just wouldn't go away. :icon_evil: BUT i did find a solution recently. monte allums sells a kit to remedy this problem. I have tried some of his mods and they sound really good so I would trust him on this one. Check it out it might help.

interesting link...

Yes, makes you wonder.

I just tried it myself with a j201 and figured I'd post a diagram in case anyone wants to do it to theirs. I increased the gain tons for experimental reasons and installed this little circuit. Bypass distortion fixed!  :icon_biggrin:

I tried to upload it to my space in the layout gallery but it wouldn't let me log on...it kept asking me to debug an error!

Man, seeing this thread reminds me once again that I need to do this fix to mine.  :icon_lol:  It's had this problem forever and I just never did anything with it.  Could be that I don't use it much.  :icon_mrgreen:

I've been using an SD-1 for years without ever having a problem with this.  Am I the only one?  Are only some units plagued with dist-bleed? (I can't imagine)...

increase r6 to 1k and then you'll see what we mean.

Hello everybody!
I am very happy with my modded sd-1 since i solved the common bleed problem.
All you need is only 1 diode 1 cap and 1 jfet.
As wampcat says it really works! I don't remember the trhead where i find it, infinite thanks for that anyway.
My sd-1 seems to be a true bypass pedal now!
I also made a little diagram
http://togusa.altervista.org/sd1_bleedfix.JPG
copy and paste to another window if link doesn't work.
Sorry for my bad english again.
Ciao...

is this link:

related to this thread?
:icon_rolleyes:

Yes.. sort of -- I posted this:

and Robert emailed me and told me that I stole that idea off of him. To avoid any issue, I posted this:

Honestly, I just don't want to be blamed for being a thief.

Muting is old

muting has been used in electronics for years, see that button on your TV remote?

Older CD players used BJT mutes on the output lines

Keeley was accusing someone of stealing?

You have got to be kidding me. At least he knows what it feels like.

No more from me.

BTW kids, you can easily do this sort of thing at home with your DIY stuff with a dpdt/3pdt switch. No need for transistors and etc if there's no electronic switch. No one's patented that idea yet that I know of...

Yeah, anyone remember Frank Clarke?

It's funny watching the modders stake out their territory and square off over something as banal as a mute. On the surface though, I got the biggest kick out of the 'adapting the TS-9 mod to an SD-1' comment. As if that's a stretch... :icon_rolleyes:

The mod biz is always entertaining to watch. I'm getting some popcorn...

Yup, but I wasn't going to be the one to bring it up first .... it's pretty easy for hype to wash away the 'history' of how things got started!
