I have a dunlop 105q bass wah that does not make a wah sound. Sound travels through the pedal but when I rotate the pot I get a squeeling sound over the guitar sound. It does not alter the guitar sound, just squeels. I opended the pedal up and the circuit board is different from other dunlop pedals. the components are smaller than normal or at least the pedals I have fooled with. The capacitors only have a  single colored stripe and the resistors are not color coded. Not sure where to start with this one. It may be the pot, but I am not sure. Do I need to replace with a dunlop pot. The value for this wah I believe is 20K, different from others. Anyone have any suggestions?  Can I replace these components with "standard" components that I get at smallbear/radio shack?
Thanks

I have the same problem so any help would be greatly appreciated.

QuoteI bought a broken Crybaby Bass Wah for $30 on ebay (Something like $22 in shipping Roll Eyes) and ended up just replacing the four IC's with ones bought on Digikey. It wasn't too bad a job either considering it's a completely surface mount board. I hate those things in pedals, really makes it a bitch to reliably modify anything.

Basically just like I said. The four 14 (Or 16 or something :P) pin IC's on the board I had to remove using solder braid and just resoldered the new IC's, all ordered off of mouser or digikey, down to the board the same way they were put in. Just be sure to mount them perfectly flat and do a neat soldering job, otherwise the IC's will pick up intermittent noise and sometimes, even radio!

Thanks for responding. I was thinking this was a lost cause

I found two of the ICs on digikey. Do you have the part numbers that you used?

O

I had a "Q" crybaby that wouldn't wah... so after going through the board with a magnifying glass and not finding anything wrong, I yanked the fasel inductor. Turns out the inductor had a break right where the wire wraps around the solder post. I replaced the inductor with  another one and *poof*, it started working!

With this bass wah, there is no fasel inductor. I think the chips are the way to go.
Cliff, if you find the part number, that would be fantastic. I was thinking this was a dead project.

These should work, but double check my part numbers and whatnot just to be sure. Make sure to get 2 33174's also and when you solder everything down, be extra careful not to bridge anything and make sure to get all of the pins solidly contacting the surface, otherwise radio noise will be introduced.

Thanks alot. I just ordered the parts. I will let you know how it turns out.

Awesome and best of luck. If all is soldered well (and desoldered well) it should work right off the bat. If I'm not mistaken, it was the cd4016 that went bad in mine, so try that first.

Really? What is there instead?

Cliff,
My soldering skills are not what I thought they were. I replaced the first two chips okay and had not wah sound, so I tried a third and destroyed a trace on the board. I think I am going to try and sell as parts. I think I have met my current match when working with pedals with the small components like this...Thanks for all of your help. Maybe down the road I will try again
