how many projects have you given up on?

there was that shaka-tube debug problem by M****, which kept me up a few days last summer...  :icon_rolleyes:
after many days I finally decided to re-build it according to his specifications to find the problem, once time allows;

vacation and other problems intervened and prohibited that attempt...

with the result, that until this day I still haven`t built a single circuit from this forum`s ample schemo archive,
and luckily by accident (?) M**** found out himself half a year later about his wrong tube-pinout.

never give up!

Thanks for reminding me Ton .....  :icon_redface:

Will you "EVER" forgive me for that little adventure ??   :icon_wink:

M**** .

Good point though, my "non working" pile is much smaller, I've been successful in bringing
back to life, around 12 projects, including a huge Boss AC2 clone and my bluebox.
It's very normal for it to be either :
A - a mistake !  ( yes we all make 'em )
B - a mistaken value
C - a microscopic solder/copper bridge
D - a faulty component/pot

E- hastily mis-designed schemo

(long "forgiven"! glad to still not having had to build someone else`s www.-circuit - it`s a "sport"  :icon_lol:)

I don't give up, but I do procrastinate and move on. I've had several circuits I screwed up on, and then went back and debugged and got them working. The XORUS has been my main source of frustration. I've got it back out a couple of times, but I could never get it to operate like it did initially. It's embarrassing, because I told of all it's virtues, and then pulled it back out of it's shopping bag I had taken it to work in, and it never worked the same way again. It was my first and last project, that I ran the off board wiring through a screw down terminal block to save hook up time. When I got it out of the bag, there were a couple wires off, the terminal block, and there was no way of knowing if they were originally connected or left off intentially during the process. Since it's wired to the schematic, I'm at a loss to know. I figure, that one of the wires was accidentally stuck under a screw, and provide a feedback loop of some kind that is missing now. GRRRR! >:(

here is an update on one of my projects.

i had been beating my head against a wall for weks trying to figure out what was going wrong with a SIMPLE tone bender.  i had checked my circuit several times and found some mistakes, corrected them, and still had nothing!

i checked and checked, and checked.  then had others check.  everything seemed to be in perfect order, but there was no bending of tone going on...

then i figured it out.  small bear sent the wrong transistors.  i needed npn, they sent pnp.

so i reversed the things that needed to be reversed to make up for the difference, and WHAMMO!  my tone is bent!

moral of the story:  sometimes when it doesn't work, it IS your fault.  but sometimes it is something else entirely.  we ALL make mistakes, get confused, or miscommunicate from time to time - even good reputable suppliers make mistakes, so think it through with that in mind,

for the record, small bear is good.  mistakes / miscommunications happen...
