Good scavenging resources?

So, other than radios and TV's...what is a good source for germ. transistors and carbon comp resistors? And am I correct in assuming this stuff wasn't being used much past the mid-70's? I'm starting to grab up some of this old crap to recycle.

Correct, try old answering machines ( opamps/trannies ) and any good quality old HiFi separates
and video recorders etc ... I got a bunch of great stuff from an old "CDi" player ... the thing before
DVD, when you had to use 2 X CD's for a movie !!
