question about the transitor testing circuit in the fuzz face article

the little weird thing coming off of the base... i am assuming that is a switch.  am i right?

Just made one this weekend and tested some ge transistors. That is a switch, because you are putting the 2.2M resistor in and out of the
circuit to make your comparisons. It works great.
