I had a couple of old keyboard/video/mouse switches lying around and saw a post where someone talked about raiding one to find rotaray swtiches.  Took one apart and found:

1. The biggest rotary switch I've ever seen
2. Enough hookup wire for my next 20 projects
3. A nice steel enclosure that I could use for a project

The cheap ones (i.e. all mechanical switching) can be found pretty easily (i.e. raid your company's IT storage room :)

You can find them just about anywhere that deals in used computers.  These boxes are intended for use with either parallel interface printers, or those using the old format serial interface.  So many printers have opted for a USB interface these days that these little boxes are pretty much useless for anyone except those trying to keep a 1993-style office afloat.
