Anyone working on any new emulations?

With the prospect of building a Dr. Boogey in the near future, I was curious if there are any new "emu's" in the works.  Seems like I read electrictabs was doing a Soldano.....  How difficult is it once you have the amp schematic?  I'd love to hear what an emu for a Bogner (Ecstacy) would sound like.

builds completed: boutique fuzz, rangemaster, BSIAB2, PT-80, Tonepad wah, Ross Comp, Axis Fuzz, MOSFET boost, Thunderchief, Big Muff (triangle), Mr. EQ, Dr. Boogey,  Neovibe, Dist+, EA Tremelo, ADA Flanger, RM Octavia
next build(s): ???

I don't see much point in making stompbox "emulators" of amps. It would be ok if you used tubes like in original design but then again poweramp gives more or less character to amp.

I think it is more about "getting close" and for $50 as opposed to $1000.

hmm?
build a Umble stomp for $10 and get the same sound as a Dumble for $15000  :icon_lol:

there was a Fender Bassman emu here on forum recently

I'm working on a BF/SF champ w/fets - which might not seem that exciting - but I have a need for that sound....

JimRayden

Well Mojotron, you got me excited, that's for sure. :)

Banicka, you have to understand that some boxes aren't for "the" tone, they're more like experiments and things to have fun with. IMHO, the JFET amp sims are a great sounding experiments.

If you're after serious tube tone on the stage and in studio, those little boxes aren't ment to replace an amp for you by any means. They're still stompboxes. It's just a way of designing a distortion effect - following an amp's schematic.

I still havent built my Orange MKII amp sim.

MartyMart has been doing great things applying the ROG logic.

Really, you can get just about any tube amp schematic and convert it to stompbox style.

The ROG guys have given us the means, go forth and create.

O yeah, post your results.

hhhhmmm......

I might just try one (Bogner) after I get through a few more intended builds.  If nothing else, it will help me learn how to use the layout/PCB software and be a good learning experience in general.  What's a good starting range for JFETs (J201, 2N5457, etc.)?

Yup, I use J201's mostly but 2N5457/MPF102 and J113's are all good
I think the pinout of J201/MPF102/J113 are all the same too, which helps !
MPF102's and J113's are a little brighter and lower gain than J201/2N5457
Mosfets can also be used ( BS170/2N7000 ) check out ROG for some useful
setups.
