Capacitor Size, oops, bought the wrong one?

I'm building a byoc.com tubescreamer clone and had never ordered larger value capacitors before. So, the instructions want a 10, a 47, and a 100uf electrolytic cap. After doing some searching on this forum, I didn't come up with any mouser numbers so stupidly I orderd the most expensive ones (Low ESR, Mouser #: ESRL100v100 for the 100uf) because I thought those were good ones.

Unfortunately they're HUGE! But judging by the board from BYOC, it actually has room b/c it has a circle outlined for one as large as this. But still, I don't even know if it'll fit in the 125B enclosure I have, it looks too tall (gotta go home and test this). If I order any mini capcitor with the same uf capacitance and any voltage, it should be okay right? I'm don't understand electronics very well but I'm guessing that if a capacitor is rated for at least 10V, putting it in a 9V circuit should be okay right?

Also, I know a lot of people don't like electrolytics, what are the replacements? If you could give mouser numbers that'd be great!

Electrolytics are fine, and the only option for polarized caps in many values.

In a 9v pedal you want caps rated 16v or more (only more if a cap doesn't come in 16v).  Don't search this forum for Mouser numbers - search Mouser for 10uf 16v.

I'm building that byoc 808 now. It did sound a little muffled when together. The TS article at GEO http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/TStech/tsxtech.htm recommended replacing the .22 tantalums (easy enough) and the 1NPs. I ordered four panasonic .47uf's from smallbear, there was nothing on mouser I could find.  Drilled a some extra holes on the board and I'll use them in parallel pairs when they arrive.

LyleCaldwell

Huh?  Mouser has 62 different .47uF tantalums listed.

The wiki has part numbers...look in there.

And 100 volt caps in a pedal, thats crazy!  I go with 16v, I like em small.  Easier to work with IMO.

Connoisseur of Distortion

i usually go with 25v.

just in case.

also nice if you're going to try higher voltages in your pedals.

.47uF film (1 of 132 listed):  http://www.mouser.com/?Ne=100&handler=data.listcategory&Ntt=*.47uF*&terms=.47uF&crc=true&N=58103&Ns=SField

1.0uF film (1 of 52 listed): http://www.mouser.com/?Ne=100&handler=data.listcategory&Ntt=*1.0uF*&terms=1.0uF&crc=true&N=58103&Ns=SField

Yeah, ok, but no PRACTICAL .47 or 1uf film that I can use as replacements on the byoc board.  Nothing about these listed in the Wiki. And yes, 100v is too big and probably will be something that won't fit in the box - been there already.

The smallbear panasonic .47uf's look like the best fit

Does it matter for the circuit if the caps are 100v or is it all the same?

Rofl. For those of you that even care, I soldered the 100v caps and it fits with the standoffs and everything! The 100v 100uf cap fits nicely in the corner where there's no pot or LED and other two are small enough so that it won't hit. Yea but next time, I shouldn't be such a newb when it comes to ordering parts.
