Clean boost + Tone control = good clean preamp ?

Sorry for the double post, but im (still) looking for the best SS clean preamp.

I just want to know wheather any of you guys have done a fender style preamp in JFET version and use it as a preamp ?

Well, in a word, no.  But it depends on what you need it for.  A "real" preamp will need to take the input voltage from around 1v to about 20-60v depending on the poweramp its driving.  If you just want to put a pedal in front of your regular guitar amp that can control the tone from there, then yeah, it should be fine.
