Well after years of a love/hate relasionship with my crybaby I decided I'm gonna true bypass the bastard.  I have the switch, the schem and the will.  I just wanted to find out if any of you have done this and what, if any problems you may have encountered.  For some reason, building my own seems easy to me but hacking my beloved crybaby has me a little nervous.  Any comments, things to look out for etc.. would be appreciated.

Edit: It's done.  Put a dpdt switch in and it does not suck tone anymore.  I tried replacing the 33k resistor next to the inductor since I've heard it makes a more vocal sound but I didn't like it.  I guess I've just gotten so used to the stock sound after 15 years.  The hardest part was actually adjusting the height of the new switch so it would engage correctly.  I spent about a half hour doing that and five minutes soldering the wires.

Don't neglect the option of just using an external bypass box. You avoid the psychic trauma of defacing something with sentimental value, and get what can be a more flexible solution. If you like to use wah in a *notched * position, this can be an even better solution, as you don't have to change the treadle position to shut off the wah.

I did that to my gcb-95 just this weekend. Its no prob. No real, asthetic difference. While you are in there yo might consider some of the other mods.  I did the voice and sweep cap mods and now my mediocre wah is one I can live with. check this out.

That's exactly how I got started in all of this. Simply wanted to true bypass my prized crybaby Wah. After doing it to my Thomas Organ vox and then learning that there is more that could be done by a noob like me, I wound up with this :

a three inductor, transistor switching, Q controlled modded super wah.

Have fun !!!!

That's incredible!  Now that's a toy.

Onto topic: I TBP'd by crybaby GCB-95 using a relay--mostly just to see if the concept would work reliably.  Mechanical DPDT or relay, TBP on a crybaby is very noninvasive.   It would be easy to return it to its original state if the sentimental value of leaving it stock got to you.

If you want to do something permanent, and invasive...then you could get one of Aron's 3PDT switches and add an on/off LED on the front.

I like Kerry's idea with the external bypass box.

I started modding my wah by adding a buffer...now it's a buffered wah/volume pedal with a soon to be added Q control and maybe a cap selector switch. It gets out of hand quickly.
I love the smell of solder in the morning.

I true bypassed my gcb-95.   I found that the new switch sat too high (or low, can't remember).  I took out the old rubber cushions and replaced them with some that were a different size and squishier.  Love the feel of the on/off function now.

Also tried the yellow fasel inductor, wasn't a fan.  Fun project overall though.

Nuts

How do you goning to wite the switch ?
I was wiring mine this way

but I could still hear the high frequency cut !
so I followed that wiring option

and now it's fine

Nuts, that's the kind of input i needed.  I usually wire my stuff the way the second pic shows so I guess I'll be fine.

Thanks.
