make it... better

i built howies metal simplex (http://www.diystompboxes.com/pedals/mtlsim.bmp) any ideas on how i can make it "better"? additions, modifications, etc are all welcome. mods to increase gain, etc all welcome. let me know if u think of anything ok going now too much scotch. :_))))))ee

If you can't think of anything else, you can ALWAYS mess with the diode feedback. Socket it. Try Si or Ge diodes instead of the LED, try different colour LEDs, try MOSFETs, try to pair them, try them reverse. Try shunting a back-to-back diode pair to ground from various points in the curcuit. Diodes are so much fun! ;D

You could try different transistors.
i.e. 2n5088, 2n5089, 2n2222a, bc108/9, mpsa13, mpsa18 to name a few.
Try different caps & resistors throughout the circuit (except the 10k's but they could be replaced with trimpots for biasing adjustments)
There's plenty of little tweaks to try.
