i am building a dual ruby by purpletheory, which runs on 9v with a 9v regulator, but i have an 18v power supply, so i would like to use that to give it some extra power.
would this cause any problems? and if so, what?
thanks

Check out which one 386 you have, IIRC only N4 can take 18V (or maybe even 15V)
The new version of DIY Layout Creator is out, check it out here

Should be fine, I run my Ruby at 18V with an LM386-N4.  An MPF102 should be able to handle 25V, so all you need to check is the voltage ratings on your caps.  It'll be very clean though, almost Twin-esque, at 18V.  Mine just will not break up.

what i plan to do is have 2 separate pots controlling gain for the 386s because i dont have a dual pot.  do you think this would be able to create some interesting tones?

Dunno to be honest.  I've built a Little Gem MKII but I haven't got around to put a gain pot on it.  I do have a dual-ganged pot for it, just haven't wired it up.
