Bought a lucky bag from Nansai a few weeks back and got lots of L7805, 806, 812, 815, 905, 915 CV ic's but have no idea what I can dop with them! Has anybody got any ideas and aslo when I use them do I need to put a heatsink onto the chipto stop it frying?

Cheers

These are all voltage regulators, but you probably knew that.the 78XX are + regulators, the 79XX are negative regulators.
***THEY HAVE DIFFERENT PINOUTS!!***
You only need a heatsink if they get too hot. How hot they get, depends on the power dissapated in them, which is: (voltage in - voltage out) X current.
I use a lot of 7815 and 7915 in my pedals that are based on old analog synths, because those ran on +-12 or +-15 rails.

Cheers Paul, I actually didn't know that! So thanks, still not sure what I'm going to do with them as yet! lol

What IS a 'Nansai lucky bag'?? Now you have got me curious!

All kinds of "protection" jokes could be made after the Nansai Lucky Bag reference.  I'm laughing out loud at my keyboard.

nansai lucky bag... lol

austin- regulators are GREAT if you have a project that is picky about a voltage. they will get dead accurate voltage outputs (like 5V for digital/CMOS/ TTL, or 9V for JFET builds would be cool...) with a huge range of input voltages.

read the datasheets on them for pinouts / concerns. they are VERY straightforward to use (input voltage, ground, output voltage... just as easy as it sounds!).

Sorry to burst the bubble chaps but IT WAS A TYPO! Should have said Banzai ! lol Thanks for the info though I think I might put them in storage for the time being!
