Noisy AMZ MOSFET booster Or: Do you select BS170 for minimum noise??

Hello everybody,

I've bought the MOSFET Booster PCB from Jack Orman.
I've added the RC filter for DC (1k and 47uF), but there is still noise, with power supply and battery in the "buffer mode" (pot disconnected from ground) Jack describes on his website.
The BS170 is currently sitting in a gold-plated quality IC socket, because I thought I might kill one by static.
I've got a dozen of BS170, but no 2N7000 or IRF511.

Is there a less noisy substitute?

Do you select MOSFETs for noise?

I've built several and I have never detected any noise.  How noisy IS yours?

I recall reading (from Joe D?) that P-channel mosfets are inherently lower-noise.  Would an equivalent circuit with a BS250 help?

Thank you, Mark
Wait a minute ...
the MOSFET booster is in the same box as my Rangemaster (PNP negative ground), my kind of DIY Time Machine Boost ...
Both boosters share the same RC filter for DC as described above.  The Rangemaster is not noisy at all (thanks to Small Bear's selected OC44).
I'm at work, when I'm back home, I will add an RC filter for the Rangemaster and thus split the power supply for both boosters. That should solve problem I guess, shouldn't it?
