  Would be this ?
Listed as Boss, I've never seen a "Boss' look quite like that.
Listened to many Boss Pedals, but have never heard a VB-2 ... certainly looks interesting enough.

Check out any Blur album.  Mr. Coxon has been using it for years.  He is to blame for my Pedal ....Problem.....  ;D

Keith, that's awesome. Thanks much for the info. Waiting for my bag of VB-2 stuff so I can start hacking.

Thanks also for the mods--they will all be switchable, but then you already knew that.

Hey BYOC, I placed a preorder of this kit in my cart before May 1st, then checked out on the 6th. Should I still expect it? I'm building it for a charity project, and need to finish it by the 25th...  :icon_eek:

If you are who I think you are, I have replied to your email and sent you a seperate email regarding this.  I do not want to use this forum to conduct business.  I will say, however, that if one chooses paypal as their payment option, they need to send the money first before their order ships.

I don't understand the BA662-BA6110 conversion. Is that an extra transistor circuit connected to the BA6110? Two connections at pin 1, and then connected to pin 5 and 9?

Yes, there is an additional transistor array preceeding pin 1.  Two NPN and two PNP.  I recommend using the same transisitors you use for Q5 - Q9 for the NPN and Q10 for the PNP.

Pin 9 is +9v and pin 5 is ground.  So where you make those connections are up to you.  I was only pointing out that you could share the +9v/ground for the transistor array with pins 5 & 9 of the BA6110 if that makes it easier for you to design your layout.

The numbers in the circles correspond to the pins on the BA662

The BA662 is an OTA that Roland has made for them specifically.  The BA6110 is a "regular" part made by Rohm.  It is a hgher quality OTA than the CA/LM3080 from what I understand.

It was designed to replace the 3080's in their early synths and drum machines.  Rohm actually made the BA662 exclusively for Roland.  When Roland discontined the BA662, Rohm manufactured the BA6110 which was very similar, but not quite the same.

An interesting project would be to fit the Ross compressor or phaser with the BA6110 and see what happens.  Ibanez is supposed to have a BA6110 based compressor.

Yeah, it was either Ibanez or Pearl that issued a compressor that was essentially a Dynacomp with a 6110.  I was fortunate enough to acquire one (the chip, not the pedal) when our friend, the generous Osamu Hoshuyama, paid a brief visit to his home during a year-long stay here, and brought back some trinkets from the electronic jungles of Tokyo for us.  I've been saving it for a special occasion/build, the way people save a bottle of wine or special cigar.  On the other hand, I have all the compressors I want/need, so maybe a swell-vibrato IS the special occasion.  And in case the point has not been raised, the BA6110 is a SIP.

Thanks for the reply. Thanks also for bringing the VB2 to guys who don't want to shell out $400 for a Boss.

I think my soundtank tremelo uses  a 6110. I don't know what is in their compressor of that series.

The SIP9 is more common, but they do make a DIP14 (with 5 NC's !) BA6110FS.  I like SIP much better than DIP...at least from a PCB designing standpoint.  I don't know why SIP isn't more popular in through hole PCBs.
