I'm tempted to "move mine along" ( 1980 original - re capped )  :D

I've been meaning to re-cap a few oldies.
Recapped the signal path or do you mean the aging electros ?

I occasionally add that idea to the list and never seem to get to it...

RaceDriver205

Lol, build for $50-, or buy for 600+. Hmmmm  ::)

Just recap the electro's  after all they are around 20-25 years old !!

Am I the only one who thinks the "O" series are ugly?

Ugly seventies graphics and dorky looking square switch.  :P

Totally agree Racy,  $50 bux for the pedal and $550 for cheeseburgers or a new guitar or an amp...

God, my second car only cost $300...

Incidently, this is so OT.... countdown to removal to lounge....

Roobin

13 hours left, and its already $610? Some people have WAY too much time/money...

I believe that at $0.50 a pick, that's 1220 picks. I think I might have enough for a while! :D :D

Physically and electronically thinking, this is a tad rediculous.

You'd better add up how much you've paid for movie theatre tickets and have nothing else to show except the fat you've grown from eating popcorn. ;D Vintage pedals are basically a guitar effect and a theatre 2-in-1. More analogies, modern digital processors are movie theatres and Fuzz Face is a "The Globe". :D You decide which one to choose. People differ.

The vintage crazyness has been discussed several times on these forums and I've settled with not buying overpriced stuff, BUT still have respect for the people who do that and who own these rarities. It shows dedication. It's not like "Wow, that guy has got a functioning pedalboard!!", it's rather "Wow, that guy has a pedalboard full of vintage items, it must have cost a fortune. He must be serious about his music.". Of course, building pedals is a dedication to a same extent, if not a greater one.

At least that's the most optimistic explanation I've got.

I sent mine packing last year (original 1980) on e-Bay.
It fetched about $350 so I'm a little bummed seeing that price.
I don't miss it 'cause, I never really liked it that much but, I think I'll be building a TS soon.

Have any of you heard a good 808?  What ever the market allows is what it allows.

There seems to be some truth to the 808 "myth" I have heard two stock 808s that sounded very good and others that sounded like a 9.

The 9s,10s and 808s I have seen inside looked to have good caps.  Now electros fail in a few ways.  With amps there is heat but effects often work at low heat so the failure can be lack of use this keeps the caps formed then there could be a bad seal.  The caps I have  measured in older TSs have all been good.

I check caps before I replace them I have measured old and well used electro caps and often they can still measure good for value,DA,leakage and ESR.

Well yeah, I'd say that near everyone here has owned or built several....

I like 'em, just not six hundred dollar kind of like.

I don't know who buys at that price but it sure isn't any of the poor working musos I know.... there's a threshold where gear is too valuable to be played freely.

I live near a deluxe guitar bootique/shoppe.... lots of cashed up undertakers, I mean Yuppies, I mean...you get the idea

"my that vintage Gretch sure is pretty..what the heck, I'll buy it...which card you take?"

Thanks Gus, this is excellent news for me...

I think I'll put the speaker upgrade and vehicle maintainence [or purchase] first...you can't drive a TS down the road, and it will fit in a coat pocket...I wouldn't want to take it out anywhere...might as well set yer same sized BillRoll of 20's on the stage with a couple wires hangin' out of it...not to give any unscrupulous individuals novel ideas, but I've had pedals evaporate from the stage...bolted down'd be ok I guess.

<< For the sake of 4 or 5 caps and £1.50, I just change 'em out anyway :D >>

<< Original 808's are too rare/valuable to leave on a "pub/club stage" for sure ! "bicycle chain links 8 8 8 " make nice things
to screw down pedals with BTW  :icon_wink:   I hate velcro !! >>

That auction is a joke, right?
I love the smell of solder in the morning.

I think this being the web people did not "understand" my post.  I tend to leave hints not full answers.

The Al electros caps used in the older ts are not junk but good brand caps that might still measure better than some  "new" caps people buy for there builds.

I have modded a few TSs and have never been able to get a "magic" 808 sound.  Anyone can build a TS to sound like a good 9 with all the information on the web but like I said I have heard two stock 808s and I could only get so close to the sound with part changes with 9s etc.  I am fairly sure I know what it is.  I am not new to this I worked on my first TS in 95.

FWIW the best way to do a fast test on a TS is to turn the tone up and set the dist at 1/2 and then at full.  IMO most dual opamps used in TSs over the years tend to sound the same at lower gain settings and the tone in the middle in a TS circuit

I doubt it. I think it's quite serious.

It's probably a shill auction, designed to haul in a not-very-knowledgeable buyer.

There are only two bidders, and one of them has only 17 feedbacks. The low-feedbacks bidder is the one that set the starting bid, and has bumped up the mark.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

no kidding.  said bidder "bought" an original ts808 on may 9.  i guess it didn't work that day.  :icon_evil:

Vintage Fx prices are going up so quickly, I bought a 60s fuzz face (with NKTs) a while back for £160 which i thought was probably too much but a few weeks ago one made £600 and another about £400.

I even bought an original clyde mccoy when the prices started to shoot up, paid top price for it then, after a couple of years i sold it and nearly doubled my money.

I can sell you some old original caps for $100, without them it's not worth much.
