Jen HF modulator trials and tribulations

     So I built this Jen JF modulator, schematic/layout at generalguitargadgets.com.  I built it on perfboard.  It doesn't really work, it passes a clean signal when the effect is switched on, even without the battery hooked up.  It has 3 controls, tone, intensity and speed.  The tone control works even when not using a battery, there is considerable signal loss though so you have to crank up the amp a bit to get it to sound but works fine.  But the other controls don't work at all and there is no change in the sound when the effect is on with a battery.  I checked the circuit and it seems like it's wired properly, pots wired correctly, etc...  Anybody have any suggestions, I really wasn't intending to build a passive tone control...

I built one of these a couple of months ago - seem to remember that Q1 or Q2 had to be oriented opposite to the layout - I think there's an old post about it somewhere around here....try flipping them around.

This pedal is a lot of fun after a Blue Box.
