Will a 3PDT switch fit in an original 1980's MXR pedal with LED?

I've got an early 1980's MXR Micro Flanger that I want to mod for true bypass.  This pedal has the LED and power jack.  It currently uses a DPDT switch -- half of which is used to bypass the effect and half of which is used to turn the LED on and off.

Does anybody know if a 3pdt switch will fit inside the pedal?  The currnt switch is fairly close to the circuit board.

My guess is no.  I put a new 3pdt in my old DOD 250 and couldn't get the battery in.  I had to put the old switch back in.

There is certainly no problem with respect to depth; i.e., a 3PDT is not too deep for such a case.  But the old style Carling switches were thin and long, rather than deep and square.    Consequently, all the holes for jacks, wiring for boards, and space for batteries is based around what needed to be done to fit that switch and those jacks in that space.  If you were willing to rehouse the circuit in a 1590B  (abuot 97% the same as the old MXR boxes) and could drill holes for the jacks in slightly different locations, I expect you could fit it in, but as Mr. Fingers suggests, it is unlikely you will be able to do what you want simply by taking one switch out and putting another one in.

FWIW - I was able to put a 3PDT and dc power jack in my early block logo Phase90 w/ no fit issues at all - a battery still fits fine too.  You could remove the old switch - just take off the nut, no need to unsolder it yet - and try to slide a new switch in to check the fit/battery etc.

If the hole needs to be enlarged any you may be able to "cheat" it up a little in the process to leave more room for the battery.

Good luck.

my very first DIY project was the booster in the beginners forum built into a dead ?blocklogo? phase 90 case. Its not easy especially for a beginner, but it all fit in there, battery too.

Another option is to use the Milinium bypass - I've done that on some old MXR pedals.
