Multi-Face Fuzz Control and Tone Control (?)

Hey gang, first post here.

Been tweaking my first first fuzz build, a Multi-Face.  I customized it, putting the bias on the face, and making C1, C2, Q1 and Q2 switchable with DPDTs.  Tres flexible; I can dial in everything from juicy sustain to abrasive chords to Morse code Atari farts.

I had some oscillation squealing in some combinations when the fuzz was way up, but I tamed it with a cap between the grounds on Q1 and Q2.  Probably .0001 uf.

Here are my questions:
1) Even when I take the fuzz control down to 0, the signal isn't as saturated, but it stills sounds overdriven and it never approaches the top end sparkle of my dry signal.  Is that just the nature of the Fuzz Face?  Could I add a cap or resistor to get a little closer?
2) If I built another one of these, how viable would it be to mount C1 and/or C2 to pots and use them as tone controls?  (In actuality, I'd probably make C1 permanent and put the pot on C2.  Or is that unwise?)  What value and taper pot would work best?
