I decided I had nothing to do today but build a pedal board so in 10 minutes I printed up some plans and went to the orange store ;D and got some latches along with a sheet of 1/2" plywood.

photo link:

First I tried to just make the 2nd shelf...but soon after, Decided to challenge my skills and angle it ;D

I just got in from 1 hour of work...it's about 90°F outside so I'll finish the rest of it tomorrow.

My plans are to have the power supply I'm building under the shelf to the users left...all audio cables will go though the right so there's no 60Hz hum.

It will fit 8 boss pedals from left to right with plenty of room in between on each level....so now I have to start building some pedals to get up to 16   :icon_mrgreen:

The back will be on a hing to turn the power supply on and off and also plug more pedals in.

After a while I'm planning on making a cover that will pop on top and lock in place so I can pack it in the car.

The whole thing will be painted black then I will put velcro sheets on the 2 layers.

If anyone knows the best place to get big sheets of velcro for cheap that would be great, I'll have to check eBay.

Yeah it's odd when you start out and have one or two pedals you've made, but now I can plug into an amp and use only effects that I've made and can get all the sounds I want- I don't have to pay for/use expensive boutique pedals anymore (except for the Paul Cochrane Tim and Timmy because they are too good not to hold on to! I plan to- once my Tim comes- have both the Tim and Timmy on the same board). Make sure to post where you find lots of industrial velcro because making a pedalboard is on my short list of things to do and I'm not sure yet where to get the stuff.

My pedalboards both have black "speaker box" cloth covering them.  You know...the carpet type stuff that most Pa speakers are covered in?  The grip side of your velcro sticks to that stuff just fine, and it's a hell of a lot easier to mount than using a bunch of 2" strips of velcro all over that wide surface area...

This is the stuff I used:  http://www.reliablehardware.com/shoppingcart/item/320

Just fasten it down with contact cement or some other strong adhesive.  Works like a charm! :icon_biggrin:

The "Cab-carpet" is a good alternative, as I've never seen velcro in sheets.  Could just be me though.

Most people don't do this but friend turned me on to putting the fuzzy side of the velcro on the pedal, so that when they're off the board they don't stick to carpet real bad.  But that means not being able to soley use carpet on the pedalboard.

I like your design, you definitely can tell you put some thought into it.

Thanks!  Just the first thing I thought of when I was signing up for this forum...does that mean I have a problem?!

LOL

I came across this site last night in a yahoo search for velcro sheets

http://www.cistamps.com/velcro.htm

1 yard, (3 feet) of 4" wide strips for just $6.

now i'm not sure if this is a good buy or not as I have never priced velcro yet so I'll look around some more.
That speaker cloth seems like a great idea and looks kool too, maby ill go with that.

Ebays got some good deals on that speaker grill cloth

For smaller stages I end up on ... :icon_confused: ...lol ...
I like using smaller pedalboards, particularly in the depth dimension. The one I'm using adds only 1/4''.. the pedal height dimension.

I just can't do a large double decker pedal board, it's just way too bulky for my liking...  :icon_confused:

i don't think i ever posted the dimensions of the layout

its 2 foot wide, 20 inches from front to back, top shelf is 24" x 6.5", lower shelf is 24" x 11" (for those bigger volume and wah pedals)

highest point on it from the floor is 5"

I'm planning on putting the name "The Double-Decker" (Thanks dano12) right up at the top...centered.
I will probably print something out that looks kool and trace it...I was good at freehand painting with details

edit, had an idea pop into my head but i wont do it on this board.

install two 5" speakers in the front of the board and put a small 20W amp circuit in it...it would be like a portable micro cube but with foot pedals...just plug into the jacks, and play away  ;D

Got the first coat of 2 layers of black on the base, also put yellow on that small part that's off for the sign.

I'm changing the plans on that yellow sign idea....i painted that part black now and will use a metallic sharpie to wright the name on it...

It may not come out as good but it sure will be easy  lol

Painting tip, don't use Rustoleum spray cans on wood....Takes forever to dry.

I used then as it was the only brand I had...I mainly do metal work

shoegazed

i ordered some a sheet of velcro (the loop side) material from mcmaster-carr http://www.mcmaster.com/

the stuff is fabulous. i've reused it a couple of times and it's incredibly strong. so strong that you can use far less "hook" strips on your pedals.

hope this helps.

I forgot about mc...ill take a look at the prices, normally they are great .

I went and checked the pedal board this morning only to find it was really rough...its either because the rustoleum metal type paint or the dust in the room it was drying in all night long.

anyways some work with some fine steel wool made it like new and so i went to the store and got some Krylon interior/exterior wood type spray paint.

it dries fast and seems to be working 80X better than the other spray paints.

i also picked up some neon orange detail paint and a pack of detail brushes...i'm going to try and mast the area out, transfer the test from paper to blue painters tape and then cut the letters out on the board...that should let me make a surface that i can paint free-handed a little better
