Anyone use stompboxes with modelers?

I use a Beringer V-AMP pro -- w/effects - never live, just when I want to do some recording or when my kids are sleeping at home.

I really like the sound of a real amp - of a certain type, cranked.... I'm not really - totally - happy with the V-AMP's sound - but I need to play with it a bit I think. The overall result is nice - but never as good as a real amp.

The main thing with the V-AMP is that you can get some nasty clipping on the input, but a volume pedal works to control that. Anyone else use a V-AMP?

At churches and weddings you are more likely to run into "people in charge" that don't have the same background that musicians do - perhaps they have been put into a decision making role with 0 experience - that happens too. As mentioned above. What I hate to see is everything mic-ed and the guitarists mixed so far down that you never hear what they are playing - drives me nuts - especially if it's me and I only like playing as the single guitarist for that reason.

I love playing in clubs where you just set up amps - unmic-ed - and go for it, but for me these days that's the exception and not the norm.

QuoteSome grumpy band members think our stage volume is too loud so they want us to go direct to board.

The problem is that you are playing at a certain volume because that's where you think the mix should be. Running you direct through a board will only make you want to tell the monitor mixer to turn you up to where you think you should be.

How about this?

Aim your amps at YOU, mic them and let the house mix that. If your amp is being used as a monitor pointed at you, there should be less "from stage" volume. Unless of course you need to play a certain level to get good feedback etc... but going direct will not help that at all.

I like the V-amp and the Pro. I think for the money (the plain V-amp can be had on ebay for about 55 bucks) they are very good. Their manuals make for bedtime reading, compared to other brands. The pro is especially good, but in some ways, that's my beef with them: it's hard to take them seriously as "pro" gear when the buttons feel like the will come off in your hands. I never understood why Behringer went with the "virtual" potentiometer controls and the gumby feeling knobs. But in terms of having a pre-amp and a bunch of effects, along with a fairly broad range of amp-modelling, nice product. And like you say, in a pinch all you really need is the Pro, a guitar, and your headphones.  :icon_cool:
