i think i solved the vero layout problem.
i implied my changes today and the circuit seems to work.

the corrections are as follows:
bridge from row2 to row3: move two holes to the right
row2/hole14: add trace cut
S1-B: move to row3/hole3
add a wire bridge from row3/hole14 to row5/hole21

counting is from left/up row1/hole1

can anybody confirm ?

cheers,
lowstar

Theres already a trace cut at row 2 hole 13 - did you mean row 3 ?

of course, row 3... :icon_redface:
and the wire bridge is from row3/hole15

i was in a hurry cause my lunch was on the table  :icon_biggrin:
cheers,

effects built counter: stopped counting at 100

Ok, Ive modified the layout to include the schematic corrections. Picture on page 1 of the thread now shows the changes tp keep continuity. To save bandwidth I'll just put this lnk iin this post.

Thanks Lowstar  :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

would anyone who has made this new build or modified an old one :P be able to post some mp3 demos :)

i have one built on the old version where the output comes from the wrong part of the opamp and it doesnt sound right at all. does this *fix* make it sound like the demos on the lovetone website?

cheers

hey torchy,

did your recent perf layout updates include changes to the design as well as updating several components? i just built it using the above posted perf layout and i dont get any volume at all.

cheers

MetalGod

does anyone have a schematic for the Brown Sauce? - layouts are great but I always prefer a schematic to check things.

@metalgod: the schem is listed as a pdf in the first post.

i just checked all my wiring on my perf version. i had one of the jump wires one hole to high (don't you hate that).

anyway.. this pedal sounds fantastic.

i have built a lot of distortion pedals with ic's and ive got to tell you that this one is the most tube sounding overdrive ive heard. i would prob even rate it higher than my keeley modded bd-2.

its nice. it sounds nice into my fender sidekick 25 but it sounds fantastic into my marshall bluesbreaker (amp, not pedal).

thanks for the schem fix and the perf update :)

will post some pics and mp3's when i get it in a box :)

cheers

Old thread....

Well anyway have had some time to tweek my brown source and is
really happy with using two Ge diode.
Gets a real nice smooth distortion.
BUT the output is a bit too low.

Is there any resistor that could be altered to get more output.

I´m using TL072 as an opamp.

Very interested in this, but all the links I've tried are dead. Anyone have any to the vero?

Hi

Here you go, from my hd archive.
If anyone has a problem with it ill take them down...
but its been years and people wanna build these...

I have a vero which I will modify and upload later.

Ok here is the vero
This is basically a flagrant rip off of the old Vero from Torchy, but Ive removed some cuts and shrunk it a bit.  :icon_mrgreen:
I also made better use of the top left of his old vero, Volume 2 can be wired direct to the output, and this allows moving all the Tone / Rotary / Vol connections to the right side

Im assuming the original Vero was triple checked, I havent built it, so until then someone builds this id class it as unverified. But from the above chat, it seems the original torchy vero worked.
Have fun.

LaceSensor

Hmm I'm glad I bothered to do that...  ::) :-\ ;D

Note that the 4u7 that goes to the 220r before the volume control is connected to the inverting input on U1b instead of the output. I mentioned this to Paul and he insisted this is the way the BS he reversed was wired. If that is true, that is a mistake and the U1b stage will have no effect on the circuit whatsoever (may as well leave it out).

Someone mentioned using Ge diodes and wanting more make-up gain. Correct that mistake and you can get all the gain you need out of that final op amp stage.

Thanks Doug
For what its worth I sold the BS I built (to Pauls spec in the layout above).
I think your tone source is just as worthy and I really appreciate the "twank" mode.

Im gonna just leave this as is, see if anyone even uses it.

I can't vouch for any parts value differences either way, but yes, the final op amp stage is wired correctly in the Divos schematic.

Pin 7 from the TL072 should be the output, so the vero i posted was right I think, but it was missing a trace cut.

This might be right, now.

Hey guys, Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I can't get the link from the original post to open.. Does anyone have the original layout still?

This was what i was working on above. unverified by me at least.
It applies the fixes doug touched on

For what its worth, I think Dougs Tone Source is a superior build; less parts, same sounds, plus one other cool one rather than the iffy "tone bypass" mode of the brown...
