Why does my Little Gem II make horrible noises when I unplug the input?

Do I need to wire the ground up to a stereo jack?  I am also getting a little bit of radio stations thru it? Any help is appreciated.

I am theory novice, but I believe that when you unplug the input (which I assume cuts the power in your circuit) the capacitors are discharging and making some of that noise.  I have that issue as well.  Can't help with the radio noise.

use a normalling jack to connect the tip to ground when nothing is plugged in.

Or I think adding a large resistor to ground at the start of the circuit would also work? (or after the coupling capacitor?)

Add in a simple on/off switch. I built a Ruby for myself with an on/off switch for kicks and it never pops. But I also built a Ruby for a friend of mine that turns on when you plug into it and it pops every time you plug and unplug.
