i just completed work on my dual ruby, but all i get when i turn it on is a loud buzz type sound.

i am running it at 18v regulated, but the LM386-4's are rated at 18v, so this shouldnt be a problem.

There are 2 speakers, which are 4ohms each.  I have them set up so i can swith between series and parallel, or 2ohm and 8 ohm.

should i try running it at 12v instead? or setting up the speakers to in series (8ohm) only?

would appreciate any help here, i already checked the pcb and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong.  i socketed both lm386's...is there any chance i fried the transistor?  i also checked and rechecked the offboard wiring

thanks!

pictures to follow as soon as i get this bad boy up and running! lol

Do you have a link to the schematic you are working from?

i can't seem to find it on the web now, as i downloaded it a while ago, but it was the Dual Ruby Layout by Purple Theory, based on the Ruby from runoffgroove.com

but, searching for that i found what could be my answer...an error on the layout, Im going to fix that and go from there.
(and i found this in one of my own threads  :-[)

fixed the problem, it turned out to be one of those cycle hums(something like that) which i fixed by putting a 1000uf cap between the + and - of the power supply.  it sounds pretty good for using 4" speakers.  pics coming soon.
