What is the maximum current that can be used in the 18V neovibe power supply?

Can I use a cheapo surplus shop wallwart assuming I can find one with appropriate current or should I use the Dunlop 18V?

I'm asking because I tried to use a cheap surplus store 12V wallwart for the Ruby and quickly fried the IC (I'm assuming because the current was too high)

The circuit only takes the current needed. You can run a circuit that takes 12ma on a 10amp power supply with absolutely no problems, assuming it is outputting the correct voltage at the correct polarity.

It was more likely you fried the ruby through either reverse polarity, or over voltage: cheap unregulated power supplies often put out a higher voltage and the rated 12v is under some predetermined load.

and find out what type of 386 you're using, as the maximum supply voltage varies a bit between the various models (some can take up to 12V, some up to 18V, some only 9V)
