first off, i was wondering if there were any popular circuits out there for crossovers that i could adjust to send over-tones to one output and the actual note to the other. my idea is to run each signal to a separate compressor and then mix the two signals together. i had seen a similar concept in an ashdown compressor, but i was just wondering if this would be the way to go about it.

thanks for the help

A nice page on opamp filters of various sorts that you could use to make a crossover like you described: http://sound.westhost.com/dwopa2.htm
and the "Summing Amplifier" on the next page for an idea on how to mix it back together.
