I just finished my first pedal, joe's easy overdrive and it works!  It sounds incredible except it has some major boost when switched on.  Is it supposed to be like that?  If so, is there any easy way to add a volume pot.  If not, what could I have done wrong?  I don't use a lot of pedals when I play but I like the sound of this one so much I want to add it to my setup (plus having the satisfaction of using something I made) but it's just not practical right now since there is such a dramatic volume change when switched on.  I used the schematic and parts layout from generalguitargadgets.com.  any help would be greatly appreciated.  also, any suggestions on a good second pedal?

A volume pot would be useful here.
Get a 100k "log" pot
Back of pot, lugs pointing down are numbered left to right  3 - 2 - 1
Wire three from circuit output cap
wire two to output jack tip
wire one to ground on circuit board

Done :D
