New To Digital Circuits. Where To Start?

Hey all.  I have built some analog pedals, but I decided to just check out how digital pedals are made.  How do you make a digital pedal?  What is the difference?  Is it easier?  Any simple projects to start with.  Any information I need to know?  Any help would be great.

For more of a background, try tryping (including the quotes) "how does dsp work" or "what is dsp" or "how dsp works" into google and you'll get lots of results.

Thanks.  wow it does look pretty confusing and crazy.  I guess for now I will stick to analog effects.
