Hi. I'm working on an rack setup for my pedals, and in trying to figure out a way to remote controll an wha. I'm gonna put the PCB in an standard enclosure and use the rocking pedal as an remote. Standard crybaby BTW.

So this could be done easy by using long cables to the pot in the dunlop chassis but you know what they say about long wires and guitar signals.

So i am looking for a way to remote control a pot, or something working like a pot, Anny ideas out there.

Ive tried using an led/ldr, but just cant get it to work in the same area as the pot. It is of course essential that when the wha pot is 0 ohm the circuit should be in the same area. and at 50ohm aso

Help please

Seljer

you've seen this article here and the "wah pedal retrofit" part showing how to use an LDR to remotely control it??

I'm not totally sure that this would be absolutely trouble free, but it seems like a very simple way to do it is to use a stereo cable with a stereo jack wired to the pot and have another stereo jack in your rack equipment that is connected to the circuit itself. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work provided you have a good shielded stereo cable.

It would work - but it would be susceptible to hum and noise pickup and treble loss due to the long cables.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I could live with a little bit of treble loss, but hum/noise could potentially be a problem. And since we are in a far from perfect world, the LDR would be the better way to go...

Yea. Ive read that. Did some test and measured it with my ohm meter, but cant realy get it it right. What led and ldr to use?

anti-idiot

dude, read the whole "wah mod" on geofex, and then u have an idea.
but i doesnt say how to 'activate' the wah, so, u can also read these fabulous articles:

http://www.geocities.com/thetonegod/switches/switches.html

http://www.geocities.com/thetonegod/rockncontrol/rock.html

this's wut i'll do (i'm in the same path, i'll convert my crappy 35 bucks wah into a monster wah)

Stereo cable (2 conductors and ground)
1 conductor will activate the wah using the first schematic of Wicked Switch (Toggle Version w/inverter gates) using a SPST sw.
the second conductor will be used w/ a 100k pot (Rock n Control 2 pole). i'll use a LDR and a 100k resistor (like Anderton) but the LED and rocker retrofits will be Andrew's.

i hope that helps u and btw, sorry for my bad english, yo hablo espaƱol.
If I was God you'd sell your soul to...

So i build an "andervol"    http://www.tonepad.com/project.asp?id=12   and used that cirquit as an substitute for the pot. connecting the wire that were supposed ti go to lug 1 of the pot to inn, lug2 to out and lug3 to gnd. It actually made made the wah go wah. But only used the first heel mm of the rocking pedal to get full effect of the wah, so i think i should use a smaller pot (i used 100k) ma by 10k should do?.

And i get an POP when i go past a certain point. Also when using it as an vol pedal. Annyone got any experience with this cirquit?

I built that circuit. I don't have any issues with popping noises, though.

What pot did you use? and housing. I'm using an old crybaby, and as you probably know i only use a Small part of the pot. If you understand. Sorry for my bad English

I have mine in an Ernie Ball volume pedal. I am using the pot that came in it. Did you use the diode on the pot? Maybe that's the problem. See my layout: http://www.diyguitarist.com/PDF_Files/Vol-Pedal-Retrofit.pdf

When building it i didn't have Any 2.2uf lytt cap available, so i used an 4,7uf obviously a bad choice. so today i replaced it with an 1uf, witch fixed the problem when using it as an vol pedal, but i still have some problems when using it to control my wah. When moving the pot fast,(witch now is a 10k BTW) I get this bubling popping sound, like a cap charging and dumping.

I'm thinkin the problem might be some power shortage leakage betvine the circuits. they share gnd but not DC+. Could this be the problem?

Gave up on the ander vol, and did the wah pedal retrofit from anderton thing. Tried it first with an vtl5c2 optocupler, witch I'm not recomending for this project. When taking the pedal back to heel position it kinda delayed the movement if you know what i mean. First i move the pedal, then it reacts. But with thishttp://www.banzaieffects.com/Audio-Opto-Coupler-pr-17349.html it worked like a charm.

I built it on prefboard, but I'm working on an PCB layout with an vr to regulate the voltage going to the led, to give me some extra tweekabilyty.  I can post it when its done if anyone is interested.

What kinda of PCB layout software does you guy's use anyway?
