OK, SIDE B will connect to the circuit. SIDE A will connect to a 9V power adapter.

QUESTION 1: Does the input voltage (SIDE A) have to be greater than 9V, or will a standard 9V power adapter work OK?

QUESTION 2: Can a 9V battery also be hooked up to SIDE A (via a 9V power adapter jack w/ switch), or does it have to connect to SIDE B?

QUESTION 3: To avoid LED popping can I hook the LED ground to SIDE A? Will this be effective in avoiding LED pops (considering I use pull-down resistors and carefully run control wires)? Do I need a small resistor before the 100uf cap on the + line of SIDE A?

QUESTION 4: For a more quiet Tremolo effect can I power my LFO and Vactrol from SIDE A and avoid a clicking Trem?

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Dots indicate a connection.
U have ALL 3 regulator pins tied to POS.
???
Please redraw....
1)On all linear regs, the input needs to be approx 2V greater than output.
2)9V batt won't work...see 1
3)yes, LED can come from reg input IF U use the appropriate resistor.
4)regulated output IS the "quiet side".
BTW, U need about 10mfd on the reg's output.

In addition to what toneman allready said (you'd need to feed about 12VDC into there to get out 9V)

this is how you'd need to hookup the regulator:

Whoops, you're right, that was a mistake. I already fixed it, thanks.

OK, what if we went with a 7806 (understanding power supply needs would have to be 6V or less), would we then be able to use a 9V battery?

Also, if we want to use the stereo jack power switching trick, where can we put it to keep the LED ground away from the output? For example, if we put the stereo jack in between the 100uf cap and the diode, will the battery get drained, or will the cap fill up and no longer drain the battery?

And I'm just curious what would happen if we didn't put the 10mf cap here?

Thanks again for all the great input!

Also, what if you put a 47uf cap instead of a 10uf? Would that be better/worse, or would it really make any difference (assuming a 7806 instead of a 7809)?

toneman

ALL regs need an output filter cap of some sort.
The "other" cap(the point-one) on the output is a "bypass" cap.
Always a good idea.
Reg output caps can be from 1mfd, to say, 100mfd, without seeing much difference.
For opamp pwr, i usually use 10mfd.
So, to finally answer your last Q...YES,  U could use a 47mfd.
Be SURE the cap is rated higher than the voltage U are using.  :o
AND....get the polarity correct the first time!!

I don't understand your will to use a battery and a regulator together... the battery gives already a constant voltage, the regulator is needed if you have to straighten an oscillating voltage. of course it's fine if you want to get 6 volts from a 9V battery, but... why?
Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible.
