Hey guys, I bought a Reissue deluxe memoryman a while back and as I was in there changing the 4558 chip to a TL072 as described by Aron i noticed that the pedal had a 3PDT switch with only 2 lugs being used out of the nine lugs. So, is this pedal true bypass? On Aron info it says something about the pedal comming with a DPDT switch and how to convert it. Any info anyone???? Thanks

it sounds your dmm has boss FET switch system :o
if so i dont know why they put a 3pdt there...
anyway you can check the schem and rewire it to truebypass.

(i dont think yours is truebypassed, buy i might be wrong.)
for the LED section dont forget that dmm use a positive ground system.

edit: sorry for my poor english.
im not sure is it called "positive" ground ???
so just connect the + of LED to ground(on the 3pdt) , and the - to power supply.

Hey!

I just got one of these last week and was messing with it too.  It is true bypass, unplug it and turn it off, it will still pass a signal.
I replaced the JRC4558 (u1) in mine but wasn't impressed, and since I've already started modifying I'm now switching the ceramic caps with silver mica.  Although one of those ceramics was a .1uf so I just swapped it with a film cap.

It's a fun pedal, I probably should just leave it alone.

Getting those knobs off was fun, huh?

Why the urge to TB it?  The unit runs off AC so there is no need for emergency bypass to work when the battery dies.  Should JFETs be used for switching, chances are pretty good that the BBD will clip long before the switching JFET does.  The input buffering is fine.  So all you really need the unit's switch to do is cancel the wet signal, which it does.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. My DMM doen't sound bad at all. In fact, I like way better than my Line6 DL4. I was just wondering about it since I had heard about this issue and saw what the switch in the unit was wired like.

It uses a relay for true bypass switching. See my FAQ and E-H page for more info.

Thanks Analogmike  for pointing me in the direction of the light!!!! So, basically it is true bypassed but, not done mechanically with a switch but rather, done with a relay switching system. Does this method still effect the tone greatly or not? I have quite a bit of pedals on my setup and would like to true bypass what I can. Thanks

true bypassing with a good relay (like we do in our stereo chorus) is just as good as using a normal switch. Maybe better as the relays usually have high performance contacts inside while stomp switch contacts are not REALLY designed for low level signals like we use in stompboxes.

have fun!

They use 3PDT in almost all of their products. It's a sourcing issue. They get a volume discount. As to why they wouldn't want to use true bypass in this box I can point you to my 2002 reissue DMM that came with a 3PDT wired "normally" for true bypass. All the wires from this switch pass directly over the secondaries for the power transformer and soak up TONS of line noise. If you use a nice relay system, you can have very short connections from jacks to board that don't need to be routed over top of a stupid transformer.
