What the heck kind of pot is this?

My buddy closed down his shop and gave me a ton of parts including this weird pot.  Anyone know what it's used for?

The Tone God

Pot with a push/pull switch. You can push/pull the rotary shaft to control the switch on the end.

Torchy

Normal pot with DPST push-pull switch on the back.

What would you use a pot like this for?  Is it more likely to be used in an amp instead of a pedal?  Or could you use it to switch input caps on a boost maybe?

Why is it at a right angle like that?

You could use it in whatever place you'd want to have both a pot and a switch (but have the switch hidden in the form of the pot so no need to drill extra holes)

guitars (push-pull pots to split humbuckers/change the phase/etc without having to drill holes...), amps (usually being used for something simple like a "bright" switch), though that doesn't mean you can't use it in a pedal :)

An example of a commercial pedal using one is the Barber Direct Drive.  The tone knob can be pulled up to engage the "Fat Harmonics" mode.  I'm sure there are others.

I don't know why it's at that angle, maybe to minimize "footprint," like if you have "depth" available in an enclosure, but not much space horizontally.

Most push-pull pots I've seen and used look like this:

Just keep in mind that they are entirely separate devices, apart from being attached as one unit; it's like pasting a switch on the back of a pot.

I've seen those used on many older Fender Amp's (especially from the paul rivera era).
Great quality, much better then those mini things.
It's supposed to sound that way.

Yeah, I was gonna say that this pot looked "old-school" to me so the Rivera era would make sense.

That's a nice looking pot, actually.  What value is it?  That might help me suggest uses.

I'll have a look at it to see what value it is I'll take a look when I get home and post then.

There were a couple of other odd ball (at least to me) things that he gave me that I've only recently discovered.  I'd ask him what they are but he's always in China and hard to get hold of.  I'll post pictures of the stranger stuff when I get home.
