RAT pedal variations and mods?

I was wondering if anyone knew the various differences between the original RAT, the RAT 2 and some of the new RAT s out there?

It seems the most common mods for RAT's are different diode combinations, and the R/C network hanging off the chip. Are there other mods out there that you can recommend?

Thanks for your assistance.

I've been looking to do some RAT mods too.  It's one of the only distortion pedals I built that I don't think sounds the way it should.  I went over the circuit a few times and I can't find anything wrong with it.  I had a 741 in it and recently installed a 308 and didn't hear much difference.  Mine is rather bassy and the volume is low.  When I turn up the amp it's got a really unique sound which is kind of cool but I know it's not right.  I had some problems with my Big Muff a while back and when I modded it something broke lose and it kills now.(Yun mods-Creamy Dreamer).  I was hoping to get the same thing to happen with my RAT.  (Just wishful thinking though.)

Dear Mr Doyle

Before Mr Orman decided to make the e-book he built a pedal called the Fat Gnat, many of his Rat mods are derived from that. Don't ask me what they are though as I wrote them down and I can't remember where I put the book. :icon_redface:

As far as know if your RAT sounds right why not do a few searches and try and find wav/mp-3's of the RAT in action. I suppose the first place to look is ProCo's site.

What are the Creamy Dreamer Muff mods?

I did try the Swollen Pickle mods, but it did'nt knock me over and more than a regular Muff does.

Yeah!  Try the Yun Creamy Dreamer mods.  At least what I did.  Remove or jumper around the emitter resistors on Q1, Q2, and Q3.  Maybe try that first.  I also removed the 500p caps around the diode sections too.  I'm sure if I needed to but I haven't put them back in and tested it yet.  But man my Big Muff is my most powerful distortion-fuzz box now.  LOUD-LOUD-LOUD.  I don't know how it compares to stock or other Big Muff styles (triangle, green) but I like it.
