The Crunch Box has become one of the most favorable pedals on another forum for the mid-high gain Marshall tones.  Does anyone have one or has played through one to assess what might be the DIY equivalent?  I'm pleased with the Thunderchief but was curious what more the Crunch Box might have to offer.

Maybe a BSAIB II? That's supposed to be a good marshally pedal (haven't built it myself, it's the next one on my list though.)

build yourself a Distortion plus and use red leds instead of silcon for the clipping doides.   That should get you in the neighborhood.

I built a Dist+ but couldn't tell much difference between the red LED's and Si diodes.  Maybe I should try another set of LEDs.  Right now my Dist+ has Ge's.  Have you played the Crunch Box?

I have not personally played the Crunch box but I did get a look at the guts of one.  It's a very small circuit.  Opamp with red LED's as clipping diodes. It looked like a Dist + type circuit.  There may be some vlaues that are different.

Good to know...  Thanks for the info.  I might try the LED's again and possibly increase some cap values to fatten up the tone.

Also take alook at the ROG Mockman, it's a high gainer using LED's and has a
great '80's rock tone :D
