What happened to all SAD1024's?

So, after a period of non building I finally started to prepare for an ADA Flanger (Mike Irwin layout and mod for SAD1024) only to discover that neither Small Bear or Banzai have the SAD1024 in stock.
It was only maybe a month or two ago that both had them and not at silly prices either.
Haven't talked to either yet but there are none for sale in their regular stocklists.
There are a couple of more really interesting projects that uses them too...

What happened?  They stopped making them over 20 years ago is what happened.  relying on NOS is fine if a component is not being used for any current high-volume production pedals, but when you think of all the boutique and non-boutique pedals that have relied on these, plus all the chips used up in repairing pedals, that doesn't leave a helluva lot for the rest of us.

Yea, I think I just didn't want to see the truth.
It was just such an abrupt wakeup call when they actually have been available so recently.
I know the economics behind these things but it still plain sucks :icon_frown:

I talked to smallbear and they said they would be getting some in soon.  Didn't say exactly when though.

Steve at Small Bear told me RG has them, and Steve is waiting for RG to ship them. (hint)  ;D

Um, as much as I'd like to suggest otherwise, my correspondance with Steve suggests that is more tentative than reality.  The "real" part is that Steve is waiting....and that RG has been looking.  What comes out of that is anybody's guess.  First there have to BE some for that looking and waiting to be productive in the end.

Bottom line?  Don't make yourself anything expensive and non-expendable that depends on one until you actually have one in your hot little hands.  NOS doesn't remain available forever, and when commercial interests with deeper pockets and bigger inventory go after something there ain't a whole lot left over for the little guy, no matter how nice they are or how hard they look.

As strange as it may sound there's a russian pip to pin analog to SAD1024 and it's called 528БР2 /528BR2/. Currently it can be found in bulk in Russia for as less as $4 USD.
Maybe our russian friends in the forum will be able to shed more light on this subject.

free? That's my favorite price... but like those ebay scammers I bet they nail you on S & H.

...the "view-count" from outside seems to be amazingly low in threads about this interesting topic...

gettemquick forfree, HERE!

I can't speak russian (I roughly understand it but I've never bothered to learn the cyrillic alphabet), but I can't find any place on there to specify your country when entering the account/shipping information

One of the things that happened as well is the HC DIY department which got into a ADA flanger development thread approx  3+months ago. There's nothing wrong with that but instead of focussing on a way to get the design adapted to obtainable parts the focus came toward having Smallbear picked as main (the lowest prized) supplier for that SAD's. I alway's learnt never to develop a design with intended sales based on hard to obtain copmponents...
More stuff, less fear, less  hassle and less censoring? How 'bout it??. To discuss what YOU want to discuss instead of what others decide for you. It's possible...

But not at diystompboxes.com...... regrettably
