Yes- I am from there -- it is about 15-20 miles from where I live now. It's changed quite a bit -- alot more businesses there now. There is a big shopping center/plaza behind Poston Road now.

i live in plainfield, went to cascade in the 90's out in clayton.

but the reason i was asking about voltages: i played at a club thursday night.  we have played there twice before with no equipment problems.  thursday i blew 2 fuses within 10 minuts.  our bassist has a power conditioner with a volt meter.  it was reading almost 130 with everything plugged in and running (pa, lights, guitar/bass amps, etc etc)  the amp i am using is an early 70's garnet pro.  they run a bit hot anyway and its a bit finicky.  i plugged it in today and played at the same level i used at the club for about 45 minutes with no problems.

a friend of mine said that IPL recently upped the line voltage to 130.  sounds ridiculous but it makes sense.  i havent contacted the club to let them know yet but i plan on asking if they have had any problems.

so basically... how do i keep my amp from freaking out over voltages?  i looked into power conditioners/voltage regulators but those run a bit pricey.  could i just get a variac and keep the voltage locked down to keep the voltage at a safe level?  is that an unwise idea?

if this is an IPL wide issue i need to do something because virtually all the shows we play are in that area, and we are recording next weekend.

It's probably limited to the club, they may have screwed up by having a bad earth connection and/or overloading one phase. The electricians here will know more than me.

But, here's a cheapish way to make a line voltage adjustor: find a whopping mains transformer that has a number of taps in the 90-100-110-120-130 region. Very early big old TVs had these for example. Then rig up a (properly rated!!) switch and some kind of AC voltmeter.

You can also look over on GEOFEX where RG has a little gizmo you can build into a outlet box that adjusts the line voltage slightly.
