Just got my order today with parts for the tonepad MXR Blue Box... very excited.
I've got a good number of red capacitors that look like this:

and the markings on them don't say the uf ratings.. just seemingly random numbers/letters...

how do I tell which is which..? ???

The values are marked in picofarads. Thus:

103 = 10 + 3 zeroes or 10,000 pf. Now move the decimal point 6 places left to get to the more commonly used "mf." or "microfarad." This, and many other beginner topics are covered very well in the FAQ on this site; do check it out.

Ya know, I just got to say I like these red caps that Steve sells.
They're a bit smaller in size than the greenies and I think they sound pretty darn good too.

they look like the "brownie" caps, yeah they are good. Not as bright as Greenies, IMHO. If those pictured are the "brownies"

markm

Yeah, that's them!
They do seem to have something about their sound.
Warmer maybe....I don't know if there's much difference or not but, I like 'em anyway!

yeah, I love them too. Especially in a fuzzface or something like that.

cheap too...

i can't live without this PDF document now, it's all the cap codes and their value in nF, pF, uF .....!!
just print it on paper and leave it in your cap box....  trust me on that one...  :icon_wink:

Once you get accustomed to the numbering , it's easy peasy :D
102 = 1nf   0.001uf
103 = 10nf  0.01uf
104 = 100nf  0.1uf
105 = 1000nf  1uf

The rest follow on, so :

152 = 1n5  0.015uf
683 = 68nf  0.068uf

etc etc
