Simple question:  If I solder a 150K resistor to lug3 of a 100K pot, will I then have a 250K pot?

Well yes, but the range of pot will be limited.

It depends on what the pots is being used as. If you're only using 2 terminals of the pot as a variable resistor then the range of the pot will only be from 150k to 250k.
If you're using it in the voltage divider form then again, something similiar would happen (though in these setups, the value of the pot is often not as critical as above)
