After seeing OldRocker had done it, I perfed up my own EasyVibe. It was the largest perf I have ever done, right up there with Joe Gagan's SkyRipper. As unbelievable as this sounds, I perfed it up, didn't sheild the leds/opto's and it worked perfectly the first time (gotta love it when that happens). It also sounds a lot fuller (imo) to the Phase 45. Here are some pics and an AVI file showing my perf job worked! I'll post a soundclip by this weekend. Thanks to J. Hollis, R.G., OldRocker for inspiring me to do this and Roobin for his layout. Thanks guy's!!!!

Roobin's layout is now "verified" to work:

I did one on vero ages ago - I called it "Easyvibe the Hard Way"

Unfortunately I don't have any Torchy-style layout to publish - just hand-drawn tentative scribble.  Anyway it ended up being pretty big ...

Torchy

Nice one - the perf doesnt look too much bigger than the pcb
(Like the Tele btw  :icon_wink:)

Wow, that build is too clean!
I bet if you sheild the LDRs it will work even better. Very nice, can't wait for the clips.

...and a lovely guitar! I love dual humbuckers with a maple neck! All the mids and none of the mud!
You will probably have a more pronounced phasing with each optocoupler dressed in heat-shrink tubing, IMO

Hey tungngruv nice job.  I wish I would've found that layout when I did mine.  Very clean.  It does sound fuller than the P-45 although the P-45 sounds great too.  I'm glad I inspired you to take on a bigger perf project.  I do everything on perf and only used a layout once.   Layouts make for a cleaner looking build for sure.  If you totally enclose your perf I wouldn't worry too much about the shink tubing.  It's cool when you open it up and show people all the blinking red lights.  Just be careful that those two solid non-blinking red LED's don't shine on the LDR's of your oscillation stages.  You might want to shield off those so they don't influence them.  Other than that enjoy your new build.

I think veroboard would be a slightly bigger layout. By using pad per hole perf board, you can almost follow the pcb layout exactly. Thanks for the kind words guy's!

hey man, nice work :)

cant wait for the mp3 demos. was thinking about building this one myself :)

cheers

Roobin

I must say that is ultra clean...I bet if I did my PCB it wouldnt be that good!

tungngruv

Thanks for taking the time to draw the layout Roobin!

That looks super clean, great job!

I have a question tho, and sorry to get off topic, but can those two LED's at the bottom be used as status LED's?? Meaning, are they on all the time when the pedal is on?

tungngruv

They stay on all the time, as well as the other LED's regardless if the effect is bypassed or not (just like my Phase 45).

That is some beautiful work on the backside of the board there.

Roobin

How did you manage to keep all the wires in the right place? And the components esp caps are really hard to do, I find. Howdya do it?

Hey Roobin, actually pretty easy with only 3 pots. My SkyRipper had over 23 wired connections IIRC. It would be easier to perf from your layout if you just ran the wires directly from the components and eliminated the jumpers (that's what I did). I finally put together a couple clips using my camera. The sounds not great but you'll get the idea of how the J.Hollis EasyVibe sounds. The camera added a bit of dist. on the Trower clip. I also figured out an easy way to isolate the LDR's and LED's. While sitting over dinner on my 16th wedding anniversary, I noticed a clear drinking straw on the table. I figured it could be cut to about a quarter inch, wrapped in electrical tape and be slid right over the LED/LDR assemblies. It fit's snug and if you leave a 16" inch of the electrical tape hanging over the straw, it will grip the bottom of the LED. How's that for a romantic dinner?

Hey the AVI's sounded pretty cool.  I really like that Tele too.  Did you buy it that way or did you work on it?
