Does 18v sound good w a "Tubescreamer" style pedal ?

I read that running a Tubescreamer at 18v will take away some of the compression , and provide more headroom...I also read that 18v can make the pedal sound somewhat harsh .

I think that I read somewhere that there are some mods which can be done to compensate for harshness when using 18v on a "Screamer" ...Any advice on what these mods are ?

Thankyou ,
Chris .

  Sounds about right. I '17.2vdc'd a DIST+, it's back @9v though.

I can only offer educated guesses:
1  mod back to stock 9v operation [seems like you could switch between 9v and 17.2V easily enough...haven't worked that one out, possibly a noisy one..didn't mess with it.], an LM317 could be used to provide a voltage knob.
2  typical HF rolloff mods like turn down the tone knob a touch or two, increase or add a capacitence[s from SP to Gnd., or FB loop cap.
...the sound difference I can see between stock and /HV modded TS would be that the opamp is more 'hi-fi' when running at a voltage that provides it with more headroom...a difference you either like or don't like, perhaps the 'IC sound' is less a part of the sound when running @HV, making different type opamps less different sounding.
