Anybody know if there is any PCB's of this one floating around?  I have asked MadBean to build one but haven't heard anything yet.  I don't think Tonfactor is even making the pedal anymore are they?

I'm getting a very Synthy sound of this... It's like something is overdriven, but not giving a distorted sound...  And it's very little responsive, I have to play hard to get a sound through. Any idea whats wrong?

I find it funny how I can have close to 1000 components, yet I never seem to have enough parts to make a project. :icon_eek:

I read through the posts, and I put resistors between the emitters and GND. Now there is no output at all... Help please!

Which layout or schematic are you using? The original schematic worked for me, but the 2n3904 was useless in Q1.... need to bump it up to a Darlington.

You're only supposed to put a resistor between the emitter of the last transistor and ground. Sounds like you did all of them. You'll probably need to play about with the value of the resistor to get it to work properly.

AHA! I must have misunderstood the earlier posts :P Thank you, I'll give it a go

ok, so I did it and it got better. There is still some clipping, and the sound isn' really that good. I replaced the 100K from Q2 with a 47K and it got even better, but still no cigar... Any more ideas?

Like bluesdevil asked what version are you trying to build? I seem to remember there's a few different ones.

Im trying to build this one , the first one with tree pots

Actually... could it be the diodes? I used silicone, but not those exact ones

Are you using 4148 diodes? Those should work the same as well.
I used a few different values for parts in my build, but the ones in that layout should be fine. Double check for shorts or cold solder joints, would be my advice.

this sounds like a candidate for my first fuzz box, seems to be getting a good reputation, can anyone hook me up with a like to some sound samples? i already have most of the parts apart from the transistors.

would you recommend this as a first build?

I'm having problems with this build, but that could just be me :D The build itself was very easy, and the layout makes it good for perfboads/veroboards aswell since it's so straight forward

Yes i'm using 4148's and all 5088's but it doesn't sound good...

I'll try some part-swapping.

Here's a few of the sound clips I had posted earlier in the thread, don't know where they disappeared to.

http://www.eskimo.plus.com/fxstuff/ds_60s.mp3 - 60's speaker ripping fuzz
http://www.eskimo.plus.com/fxstuff/ds_blown.mp3 - You've blown the clip
http://www.eskimo.plus.com/fxstuff/ds_hgfuzz.mp3 - high gain fuzz (this is the emitter resistor mod)
http://www.eskimo.plus.com/fxstuff/ds_synth.mp3 - cheap synth
http://www.eskimo.plus.com/fxstuff/ds_swell.mp3 - weird swells

These are of the version I built, there's a description of it somewhere, which isn't the same as any of the schematics posted in this thread. Should give you an idea of the sounds it makes though.

If you want any more clips just search the internet for Ultralord fuzz  ;)

bumblebee

Definitely use the darlington in there.

knealebrown

cool sounds good, does anyone have a vero layout for this?

GREEN FUZ

There`re a couple in the layouts gallery.

I have this layout of the simpler, original design (which I much prefer).  The original is a filthy, nasty beast.

- digging up an old thread...

I just built this last night, does it really need an electrolytic cap at the input? I saw other layouts with a 1uf non-polarized in that spot.

Also mine sounded kinda weak and sputtery with three NS3904 transistors. I am going to try some 5088's in it tonight to see if that brings it up a notch. I may swap R3 and R4 to bigger values as suggested in this thread.
