Here's a drawing I made that combines JC's null mod and Ben Milner's filter mod. I built this and it sounds pretty good. The two mods were easy to combine. The null helps dial in the octave sound. The filter mod really make the octave stand out, it sounds almost cartoonish. The filter makes the octave very extreme.

I'd like to add a little control over the volume. I had added a volume pot to ground, after thinking about it for a while I thought a gain control on Q3 would be better any thoughts or suggestions?

Neat system of board mounting the Sw and Jacks, but I don't understand how the switch and jacks [sticking out from the board like that] can fit into a box with fixed sides and top...
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Cool!
You could also try just putting the 10uF in parallel to R12 and leaving your volume control as is.

Those jacks are like the ones in MXR pedals like the phase 90. Without the nuts, they go in flush with the inside of the enclosure, then the nuts go in from the outside.

I pulled the switch and pot out away from the board to show the board. These will fit in the box when the wires are tucked in. I haven't made a box for this one yet. Here's a few pictures of a couple other effects that I made with the same board.

Thanks for the reply. Putting a 10uf in parallel with R12 would increase the gain, is there a formula for that? Increasing the gain would make the volume control usable. As is there is not much range on it, I'm guessing the green ringer is about unity gain at the output.

I don't know the formula. But, I guess the other way to do it would be to put the pot in series with the cap, like it's done in the mosfet booster, stratoblaster...

Those enclosures look fantastic! Luv the fuz. :-* :D

It's all sort of alchemy with me. I understand the gain control when I see it. So I think I can sort of tack one on. But when it comes to why it works then I gotta start posting here!

Thanks for the compliment. I had some fun making the fuzzy box. I made two like the one in the picture. I want to do a few more if I can find some material that I like.

Cool! Thanks for trying it.  I'm doing a Foxx tone machine  right now with the same kind of lo pass filter on the front end, its a lot of fun with octave ups.

One easy way you could get more gain with your existing circuit is you could ditch the 6.2K resistor in the filter mod and replace it with a 10K pot, and hardwire the associated electrolytic cap directly to ground instead of the switch, like the gain pot on the Orman Mosfet boost.

Oh yeah, those b size prototype/perfboards are a real nice idea by the way, you should license it to small bear or another pedal parts place if you're interested in that kind of thing.  Maybe have it come with a b size box and a paper drill template for the board mounted jacks and stompswitch?
