Hi all!

My name is Paul Ems and I am a new member here. I would like to congratulate all involved with setting up and maintaining DIY stompboxes; this is a wonderful resource for enthusiasts such as myself.

I would like to build an effect that will be very loosely based on the idea's used in Joe Gagans' Tarpit Meltown. I'm sure that Joe's idea's have inspired some of us to retrospectively modify some of our own effects! I have an old schematic for this effect and am going to use this as a starting point.

My question is, does anybody know what transistors are used for Q1, Q2 and Q3 in the Tarpit meltdown? I was thinking of using 2N3906 for Q1 & Q2, and 2N1309 PNP Germanium for Q3, though knowing what Joe actually used would be helpful as I might have these parts in my junkbox or might be able to gain match from generics . This would be a great help.

Thank you.

Paul

The schematic I used was labeled "REV C 4 08 03, if you have an earlier one could you mail it to me? Mine states to use 2n3906 for Q1 & Q3, socket Q2 and use any PNP Germanium trannie that's suitable for a fuzz. Smallbearelec.com sells a "Joe Gagan" PNP trannie, but if you socket that position, I'm sure one of yours would work. I used 1n4002's for diodes but I think I might stick Germaniums in there soon. Also, don't omit the 50K "bias" pot. Lot's of fun with that knob alone. Good luck.
