I've been told and have noticed from the builds most of you have done that the peppermill OD is a favorite build of most people. I wanna give it a shot, and I was going to use this layout:

I was wondering though what adjustments need to be made if I were to use a 100k trim instead of a 50k. Also, I'm going to have a bunch of J102's and 5088's coming in and I wanted to get some opinions on if I could use dual J102's instead of using the BS170 in Q1.

Also, though I've read "the secret life of potentiometers" I am having a little trouble learning when I can substitute different pot values and such and knowing when adjustments need to be made to accomodate new pot values.

a 100k trimpot will work fine, it will be a bit harder to adjust though.

not sure about replacing the mosfet with a jfet though.

Nah, Q1 needs to be a MOSFET. BS170 or 2N7000 for preference.

hi....

a couple things....

1) you'll need to use a mosfet...to my knowledge, a jfet wont work properly in its place....

2) a 100k trim pot is fine...think of it this way.....lets say you are driving, and all the roads have a 15mph speed limit...its easier to maintain that speed properly in a 4 cylinder car than a 8 cylinder car...kinda the same thing with those trim pots...a 100k will work, but will be more difficult to adjust properly, though certainly not "too" tough  :^)

have fun !
