Warp/Morph pedal

Hi! I am very new here so please go easy on me.  ;)

I have been searching for distortion pedals, boosters etc. but now I have one thing in mind that I cant seem to find at this board. I am looking for a pedal that characterizes the sound. Something like the morph function on some Digitech pedals (the Metal Master for example) but to base a whole pedal on. I dont want any distortion or any other 'effects' other than the warp/morph function or whatever it can be called, on the pedal. On my Randall amp there is the contour control which is pretty simillar to what I am looking for if this may help since its analog. Though I may want it to be a little more extreme (wider range), especially when set to max.

Right now I have a heavy distortion, more than enough gain/dist so that is not the problem here. If any of you have played on the Metal Master you will know that the Morph function goes from a kind of a woody, flat sound (0) to a more chunky chug-chug sound (5) and at the max there is this roaring, more brutal sound which is pretty much what I want with my pedal.

I own the Digitech Metal Master and it sounds to digital for me, so is there any way putting a simillar function into an analog pedal? I dont want to incorporate this function into any of my other pedals. And just to make sure, I have heard samples from the XXL pedal (tech21) that has a warp function, but that is NOT what I am looking for. That one goes from ordinary distortion to a fuzz-like sound, the thing I am looking for is supposed to make the sound more characteristic, making it sound like Entombed or Dismembers somewhat earlier works.

I have checked the AMZ Warp Controlls out but I have not yet heard it or tried to make it. Can this circuit alone make a pedal? My guess is no, but I know so very little about electronics so I cant judge. :-\ Also, since there is numerous different circuits, has anybody tried any of these circuits that matches my request?

Thanks for reading this, hope someone can give me a hint on this!

I think the problem is that "warp" isn't really an audio term and it's more of just a name on the pedal unit you have. Sounds like what you are looking for is an Equalization control that turned on way is thick heavy and dark, death metal sounding... then turned the other way is bright and thin sounding, but usable in some styles.
This is basically the big muff tone control. You can play with certain values to get more low or more highs.
As far as making it it's own pedal..anything is possible but...

Maybe something like the Tone control for the Metal zone pedal. A lot of control over the high, low and mids. There is a pedal made of just this tone section. I'll have to dig it up.
You can email me at basicaudiowv AT earthlink.net and I'll send it to you. (take out the spaces in the address)

Although I like the concept of Warp/Morph ing from one effect to another, especially the inbetween parts, it isn't a specific effect, as John stated.

Check out Mark's RoseyRay for something that goes from a mild OD to big notch filter Heavy Metal.   :icon_cool:

Thanks for the replies! I was afraid it wouldnt qualify as a standalone effect. :( I guess the same thing goes for controls like air, contour, resonance,  etc?

I would like to shape and characterize the sound as much as possible to create unique sounds. An equalizer wont do the trick, I have already tried it without luck. I also mentioned the Contour control on my Randall Amp, because this control is analog, can I make something simillar but as a pedal? If it's possible I want to add all of the controls mentioned above into this pedal.

I know you will say that it is probably best to put this function into a distortion or overdrive pedal but since I was planning to use it both at home and on my other rig it would be best to have it as a pedal of its own. I will use the distortion from pedals at home and the distortion on my amp on the other rig so if I have distortion from this pedal it will get muddy im afraid.

And as I said in my first post, I already have huge amounts of distortion, I only want to shape the sound into my likings.

Hope someone can give me an answer, thanks in advance!

Sounds like you could benifit from an EQ pedal, really.  I believe www.generalguitargadgets.com has a rather nice EQ pedal project there, which may be what you're looking for.

Contour, Air, Warp, Presence...all EQ based controls. All of them can be done seperately, or with a nice graphic EQ. Just rip that specific control portion off of any amp that has them.

Cheers,
